Introduced in 1955, the Silver Cloud replaced its predecessor, the Silver Dawn, as the top-of-the-line Rolls-Royce model. Over 11 years and three generations of production, Rolls-Royce manufactured 7,372 Silver Clouds, 2,238 of which were Cloud Is. Variants included the Saloon, Drophead Coupe, and Flying Spur.
This Silver Cloud I Saloon was sold new through Rolls-Royce of Canada to David Cooper of Victoria, British Columbia. The car was beautifully configured with Shell Grey paint and a single deep red pinstripe running down the beltline of the body. The interior was trimmed in red leather, beautifully contrasted by gray carpets. The Silver Cloud was equipped with optional power steering from new, making the car a pleasure to operate in a variety of driving conditions.
While this Rolls-Royce was refinished in two-tone silver paint at some point in its history, it otherwise remains original, including its gently aged red leather interior. Subsequent owners included Jim Matheson of Marysville, Washington, in 1969, and Tom Sumner in Seattle in 1977. The Rolls-Royce was eventually acquired by collector Dennis Sommerville of Arlington, Washington, who would keep the car for many years.
Retained by RROC members for the past four decades, this Silver Cloud is sure to be a highlight of many future club meetings and British car gatherings.
