Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re interested in consigning a car for auction or for private treaty, the best way to get started is by contacting a Gooding & Company Specialist at email@example.com. You may also fill out and submit our Consignment Inquiry Form online. Once you have submitted your information, a Specialist will assess the vehicle and contact you to discuss the best platform for its sale.
To bid at a Gooding & Company auction, you must first complete and submit the Bidder Registration Application available on our website. You have the option of submitting your application through our website or downloading a PDF version. Please note that a Bank Letter of Guarantee is required to bid at our auctions. A sample Bank Letter is provided within our application. If you choose to download the PDF application, you can email, fax or mail the completed application to Gooding & Company using the contact details provided on the forms.
Once your Bidder Registration Application has been submitted, we will review your information and contact you for any additional details we may require or to let you know that you are approved to bid with us.
Your bidder registration packet will be available for you to pick up when you check in at Gooding & Company’s site during the viewing and auction days.
Online bidder registration is available through Gooding & Company’s website, through Gooding & Company’s mobile apps for iOS and Android, and through Gooding & Company’s online bidding platform. After the submission of your application, a Gooding & Company representative will contact you to finalize your registration.
Gooding & Company requires a completed bidder registration form, proof of identification (Driver’s License or Passport for individuals and corporate documentation for companies), and an original Bank Letter of Guarantee or other form of proof of ability to pay for purchases, in either case, in an amount and in a form acceptable to Gooding in its sole discretion.
Prospective bidders authorize the release of financial information to Gooding for the purposes of verifying ability to pay for purchases.
Please create an account or login at bid.goodingco.com to browse the online catalogue. From there you may select a vehicle to view more information and place a bid.
You will be able to bid just as soon as a Gooding & Company representative contacts you to confirm all required information has been submitted and processes your application. Once you are notified that you are approved, you can begin placing bids in Geared Online.
When you place a bid on the online bidding platform, you will see “WINNING" on the catalogue and lot page if you are the current high bidder. If you are not the current high bidder, you will see “OUTBID” and have the opportunity to place another bid.
In Geared Online, Gooding & Company will offer some lots with a reserve and some lots without reserve. The lot page will indicate whether a lot is offered “without reserve.”
For lots with a reserve, the lot page will indicate “reserve not met” until the lot’s reserve has been met.
Each bid is final, binding, and irrevocable as soon as the bidder clicks the “bid” button. The bidder cannot change a bid once it is placed. The only change that will be permitted is to edit a maximum bid to a higher amount.
If another bidder has outbid your maximum bid, you will see “OUTBID” along with the current asking bid on the catalogue and lot page. You will also receive an email notification indicating that you have been outbid.
We recommend updating your mobile app or web browser to the latest version for an optimal bidding experience. If you are participating via the website, Chrome and Firefox are the preferred browsers. We also recommend refreshing your mobile app or browser often for the most up-to-date auction experience.
Geared Online lots will begin closing on the final date and time designated in Event Information. Lots will close approximately every 30 seconds. Bidding on a particular lot ends when the countdown clock on the lot reaches zero.
Please note that if a bid is placed within the final three minutes, the lot's countdown clock will be reset to three minutes to allow all bidders the chance to fairly place higher bids if they wish. These extensions will continue indefinitely until there is no more bidding activity on the lot for a period of three minutes.
The extension of one lot’s closing time does not affect other lots’ closing times and so it is possible that lots will close out of numerical order during Geared Online.
If you are the highest bidder when the countdown clock on the lot reaches zero, you will see “WON” on the lot page on your screen. The lot page will indicate the final bid price as “Purchased For.” Please note that, as explained more fully in the Conditions of Sale, the Buyer’s Premium is in addition to the final bid price that is displayed as “Purchased For.”
Congratulations! Our client services team will be in touch in approximately 1-2 business days after the final lot has been sold with your invoice, along with further instructions regarding payment, lot removal, and ownership transfers.
If you have any questions before, during, or after the sale please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll answer any question you have as to our procedures.
Additional information regarding taxes, payment, and transportation can be found in the Important Notices section of Event Information.

Attending a Live Auction
If you have already purchased a catalogue, you may bring it to the auction to redeem for admission for two. If you have not purchased a catalogue, individual admission wristbands are available for purchase in the entry tent of each Gooding & Company auction site. A wristband allows access and re-entry to all viewing days and the auctions. Please be advised, priority seating in the auction tent is reserved for registered bidders and their guests. The admission cost will vary based on venue, so please reference our Auction pages for details on each event.
We do not ship wristbands out with our catalogues. If you have received our catalogue prior to an auction, you may bring the book itself or the order confirmation to our auction site and redeem it for two admission wristbands.
Don’t worry, we never run out of admission wristbands for our guests. Admission is available through the last day of each auction.
We do not provide VIP passes, as we strive to offer a VIP-level experience for every guest who attends our events. We do offer priority seating for bidders and their guests separate from general seating, to allow our auctioneer to facilitate the sale in the smoothest and most efficient manner possible.
We offer live streaming of all our auctions, both in browser-based and mobile device formats. A link directing you to the live broadcast will be made available on Gooding & Company's homepage and throughout the site on the day of each event, and the live broadcast itself will begin streaming about 15 minutes before each auction.
Yes. Gooding & Company offers Telephone, Absentee, and Online bidding for all our auctions. Please visit our Register to Bid page and select your preferred method of bidding for further instructions.
The general requirements for all methods of bidding include a completed Bidder Registration Application, a Bank Letter of Guarantee, and Driver’s license or Passport identification. Please note that we do not currently offer submission of Telephone & Absentee Bid Applications through our online registration system.
An estimated 12-15 lots will pass over the block within one hour. This range should help you in determining when a chosen lot will be up for sale on the block.
Vehicle Paperwork & Accompanying Items
We require a current title in the current owner’s name in order to offer a car for sale at auction. If the title is in a business or entity name, please let us know immediately so all consignment paperwork and agreements are consistent. We are also able to offer cars at auction on a valid Bill of Sale. Please let us know if a car will be sold on Bill of Sale as soon as possible, as we provide this information to potential buyers in the catalogue. If you are selling a car that is registered overseas, then we require whatever title form is valid in that country, for example the V5 form from the UK or the Fahrzeugbrief from Germany. Feel free to contact us with specific questions regarding your overseas title.
Please provide title work for your consigned car to our Business Affairs Team. They can be reached directly at 310.526.0585 or email@example.com.
Please provide accompanying items for your consigned car to our Business Affairs Assistant, Samantha Venegas. She can be reached directly at 310.526.0585 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Transport & Delivery
Cars need to arrive on-site several days in advance of viewing, so that we may properly catalogue all accompanying items and detail your car for presentation at viewing and for the auction. For our specific arrival and receiving dates for each auction, please contact the Business Affairs Team at 310.899.5171 or email@example.com.
If you are transporting your car within the United States, we have a few select truck carriers that we can recommend. We also work closely with Intercity Lines, whose representatives are available to help arrange post-sale transportation at each of our auction sites. If you are transporting overseas, we work with Cosdel as our shipping broker, who will reach out to the overseas agent to coordinate. There are many choices, however the most popular has been CARS UK/USA. If you use a different overseas agent, they may not necessarily work with Cosdel for import, which is still fine.
Our recommended transport companies are briefed on our preferred delivery locations. If you are transporting your car independently, please contact the Business Affairs Team at 310.899.5171 or our Logistics Manager, Nathan McNeil, at 805.407.2428 for car delivery instructions.
If you have any additional questions about transporting and delivering your car to our auction site, please contact our Business Affairs Team at 310.899.5171 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
